Almost all of us have things in our lives that we want to or need to do…things we need to make right. Relationships that need mending and people we know who need to hear about Jesus. These things are on our mental ‘to-do’ lists.
The Bible says in Ephesians 5:15-16:
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Sometimes You Don’t Get a Second Chance
We feel like we have plenty of time to get these things done. It often seems to us that the opportunity just hasn’t been quite right yet. But our friends and family members are not going to be here forever. In only a fraction of a moment, they could be gone. The fagile and temporary nature of our mortal lives has been driven home to me over the last weeks. Two teens from my community have died suddenly in tragic accidents. Healthy young people who were living good lives and doing right. Just like that, someone can be gone from this world. Then the opportunity is lost forever. When that happens, we can never get closure; never have perfect peace on the matter because we didn’t do what we knew we should have.
Take this as your second chance. Make the most of this day. Don’t wait any longer. You know what you need to do. Do it. The time is now!
