Gone From My Sight
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, “There, she is gone.”
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me — not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, “There, she is gone,”
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”
And that is dying…
A writer friend of mine has passed away suddenly from a pulmonary embolism. This picture was one that she had posted on Facebook. Jess Strong thank you for being such an encouragement to me and to so many other writers.
I can’t believe you’re gone just like that… But you’re not gone… Only gone from our sight. You’ve crossed the ocean of death and arrived safely into the waiting arms of Jesus. For you there is no more darkness. Now you will live in the light of His love forevermore.
On December 26 all Jess’s writer friends will be buying her books in lieu of flowers. If we all buy on the same day her books will get a boost in ranking on Amazon. I know she is in a better place where such little things don’t matter anymore but, for those of us left behind, it is a way to say – we miss you. If you would like to buy Jessica Strong’s books you can find them on Amazon.
