Grace isn’t a popular or a well-understood concept in society today. To most people, the word ‘grace’ means a woman’s name or the prayer is said before a meal. But to me, grace is everything! Grace is possible because of what Jesus did for us. The son of God died for our sin and rose from the dead, in victory. He’s alive! Now, if we believe in Him, we receive His grace.
The Bible says in Romans 3:23-24:
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”
I have accepted God’s grace and now I feel hope! Grace is this awesome thing that, when God looks at me, He sees the me He made me to be and not the imperfect, struggling me. And the truly wonderful thing is that He not only sees me that way but He also helps me to become that beautiful, talented, kind-hearted person he made me to be.
The Bible also explains in Romans chapter 6 that it is through grace that we are no longer slaves to sin. (I encourage you to read the entire passage by clicking on the link.) Grace gives us the power to break free from bondage to sin. The concept is summed up in Romans 6:14: “Sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace”.
What Does Grace Do?
So, then, God’s grace does two things:
- Grace sets you free from guilt and sin.
- Grace empowers you to do right.
How Do I Get God’s Grace in My Life?
That’s the easy part! All you have to do is believe in Jesus and choose to follow Him. The Bible says, in Ephesians 2:8-10, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” So it is a choice. Choose to put your faith in Jesus!
How Do I know I Have God’s Grace? How Do I Know I’m Saved?
If you notice, Ephesians 2:10 talks about works. Works means doing good things. So, if you are saved, you will do good things. If you truly put your faith in Jesus, your life will reflect that. You will do the good things that God wants you to. If you’re not sure if you’re saved, pray and ask God. Keep praying and reading the Bible until God gives you an assurance in your heart!
